What would Carrie say?

Last night there was a call-in radio show and a woman called in and said she had cheated on her boyfriend the day before he proposed and she said yes because she felt guilty. So now she is engaged to a person that she has cheated on, has not told him, and doesn’t even want to marry him. The host of the show actually suggested that she go ahead and get married, stick it out for a year or so and then get divorced. WHAT?!?

I am so appalled that the moral compasses of so many are really off. For one, why would you marry someone you didn’t really want to marry? 2. How could you marry someone that you cheated on without ever confessing your infidelity? It just seems this person does not understand that a relationship involves two people and her fiancĂ© has the right to decide if he wants to marry her after she has been unfaithful. He has the right to decide if he wants to marry someone that is planning on divorcing him in a year. What an awful, heartbreaking reality that would be.

This call-in show really makes me think that the divorce rate in America is going to significantly increase. We (myself included) are a generation raised on 90210, Friends, Sex in the City, where fidelity, honesty and loyalty are not traits that characters possess or aspire to. Sad.

I am so glad that I have an awesome husband and relationship where honesty is the best policy.
